Triggers are the catalysts that set your automations in motion. Without a trigger, a workflow is just a dormant set of instructions. Understanding how to deploy triggers effectively is key to building a responsive CRM environment.
1. Types of Triggers
The platform offers dozens of native triggers that monitor different areas of your business. They generally fall into three categories:
| Category | Examples | Best Used For |
|---|---|---|
| CRM Events | Contact Created, Tag Added, Opportunity Status Changed | Internal database management and sales pipeline automation. |
| Customer Actions | Form Submitted, Survey Completed, Order Submitted | Lead capture and post-purchase fulfillment. |
| Communications | Customer Replied, Call Status, Email Opened | Triggering follow-ups based on engagement. |
2. Trigger Filters
To prevent your workflows from firing too often, you must use Filters to narrow down the trigger criteria.
For example, if your trigger is "Form Submitted", the workflow will fire every time any form is submitted on your account. By adding a filter for "Form is: Contact Us Widget", the automation will only fire for that specific form.
Pro-Tip
You can add multiple triggers to a single workflow! If you want the same sequence to fire whether someone fills out a form OR books an appointment, simply add both triggers at the top of your builder.
